Two W.E.A.K Dudes

theme, new servers and whatnot

Okay, so some of you might have noticed our comments being swallowed (only two apparently). Thing is, Node Six transferred us to one of their new servers, and threw in a fresh new theme as a bonus, custom pimped just for our royal weakness. We were worried our site would be down for ages, but [...]

1001 Tales - Freefall

Posted by The Dark Knight on Thursday, December 4th, 2008

This is the fourth story in The 1001 series. It is an experiment in realtime writing, none of this is pre-conceived or pre-meditated, I want to see how far I can push a story without stopping to build the characters, or to plot out a proper tale. Some are brief, some are long and elaborate.

And now…

—-

Freefall

He stood at the edge of the cliff, heart racing, mind whirling, emotions and memories searing through his mind, screaming like a thousand and one banshees. A blinding kaleidoscope of the past few months twisted and warped, melting, melding, shattering apart and reforming themselves with chaotic speed.

He couldn’t take it. The torment, the pain, the agony. He had lived with it long enough. And he was tired.

He knew there was only one way to end this.

He closed his eyes and jumped.

As he leaped off the cliff, he felt the rush of wind on his face, the gentle caress of the fast moving air, barely ruffling his uncombed hair. He felt his shirt billowing behind him, a vain and selfish attempt at keeping him afloat.

He couldn’t see the bottom, but he knew it was coming, and smiling, he welcomed it.

He hit the water at 90 miles an hour.

Not a splash, not a sound, he just went under, vanishing beneath the cool icy surface.

He felt the water react to his violent intrusion, felt it resist with the echoes of a million noiseless bubbles, just for a split second, before it accepted its fate and came swirling back to cover him in its blackness. It enveloped him, embracing him with the promise of nothingness, embalming him with the gifts of the unknown.

And deep in his heart, he felt it.

The quiet serenity.

Peace, at last.

He was free.

Until the bungee rope yanked him back out of the dark cold water and into the glaring brilliant sun of reality.

After ten years of suffering, ten years of endless nightmares, it would finally come to an end, death, would be his escape from madness. But it had not always been this way, Kratos had once been a champion of the Gods…
